Heralds

Heralds |ˈherəlds|
noun
1. an official messenger bringing news.
2. a person or thing viewed as a sign that something is about to happen.

We as human beings are constantly sending signals to each other based around our unique cultures. We silently communicate using objects. We converse with colors. We squabble through symbols. Whether conscious or subconscious, we surround and even adorn ourselves with things that tell something about us. Even if it is miniscule, we are always sending messages.

I’ve entitled this series Heralds because these objects and symbols and things we call a home, or clothing, or toys are also just as much, mediums to catagorize ourselves. In essence we are sending out silent warnings or inaudible welcomes all the time.

For this series I have chosen to focus on two mediums that are some of the first heralds perceived when meeting someone new. The welcome mat to our home, and the clothing we choose to wear.

Pachydermal

I was shooting a bit in some alley while waiting for my wife to come pick me up from a study session at the library when I saw some crazy shapes of paint on some old dumpster. They all reminded me of old cave paintings/ abstract art. This was my favorite, it looked like a very sober elephant. One who would definitely never forget something. Oh how I envy him.

Small Fries

This was during a project for a finance class. It was a product analysis project where we compared fries from a few different restaurants. This was one of the stops, and as usual, the fries were gone in a matter of minutes leaving the small undesirables behind. Aww, poor little guys.

Window Sea

This reminded me of plankton floating in a nocturnal sea. On the way home I noticed how our filthy (dusty really, there was no grim. We're sanitary people.) windshield caught the street lights. i loved the abstract landscape in it. I didn't have the tripod, so it was pretty tricky.

Self Portrait #8

I have this idea in my head. But i'm having trouble explaining it. It's kinda . . . fuzzy.
